Nike Tailwind 79
The silhouette that sparked a revolution, the Frank Rudy designed Nike Air Tailwind was the brand's first venture into Air-fuelled cushioning and made its debut ahead of the 1978 Honolulu Marathon, before a wider release in '79. Frank had the idea of placing an air pocket within the sole of a shoe to enhance cushioning for runners; he engineered this feat with a 'blow rubber moulding technique' he learned during his time with NASA to create a hollowed air-injected midsole. The rest, as they say, is history.
