Converse began life in 1908 when founder Marquis Mills began manufacturing rubber shoes, and from that, ‘the Converse Rubber Shoe Company’ was born. It was in 1917 that the company first ventured into basketball wear with the ‘Converse All-Star’ and throughout the years the brand has transcended beyond sports shoes into lifestyle footwear which appeals to various styles and cultures.
Converse 70s
First debuting in 1917, the Chuck Taylor All Star was recognised as the first choice for basketball players, taking its name from sporting icon Charles Taylor – a professional athlete who later invented the stitchless basketball. On first inspection, the Chuck Taylor 70 may look identical to the original All Star. However, the vintage essentials boast a higher standard of craftsmanship, including a midsole with enhanced arch support, as well more durable canvas uppers.
Converse One Star
Following in the footsteps of its older brother - the OG Chuck Taylor - the One Star has often been one of the brand’s unsung heroes. Throughout the years, the iconic silhouette has positioned itself among a plethora of subcultures (including on the feet of the late Kurt Cobain during the ‘80s Grunge era) and today, the slim legend remains a mainstay in today’s streetwear scene.
