In 1985 Nike made history, manufacturing the first sneaker to be specifically designed for a single player. The Air Jordan wasn’t without its controversy though - upon its release it was banned by the NBA as players were expected to wear the same footwear when playing the game. Nike opted to pay the fine for each on-court appearance, and the Jumpman went on to make the Air Jordan 1 one of the most celebrated silhouettes of all time.
